University Blues.

There are so many great things that occur because of going to University. There is no doubt about that. You meet new and different people. You have the chance to start it on your own and develop a new Independence and responsibility for yourself.

However I have found that there are severe consequences to going to Uni and they all stem from MONEY. This seems to form the root of many Uni student's problems. Living away from home you have to allocate money to fund your weekly food shop, toiletries, clothes and hair-cuts. That's not even including your nights out, your alcohol, and your in-frequent trips home for washing your clothes.

What happens when you don't have any MONEY?
Your new found Independence tumbles and crashes down as you ask your parents/guardians for a loan. Many students have had to and will continue to do so. There is no shame in asking for help, it takes more guts to ask than not to.
If you can't ask your parents/guardians for some MONEY to get buy then invest in looking for a worthy bank that will include a interest free over draft. This though you should do before moving away to Uni!

My suggestion? Natwest.
You get a rail card that saves soo much money, and you also get 250£ interest free over draft for your first semester which goes up to 500£ your next semester and then 1000£. This is a worthy thing to look out for bc it also means that once you graduate you can pay this money back without having to worry about interest.
Get a job! One day a week can help you so much! If you get a free day off of Uni then get your arse to a computer, print off your C.V and hand them out! You will develop an extra confidence and independence. It's YOUR hard earned MONEY! You can save it or you can put it towards food or something.

Interested in SAVING?
NUS cards are also a good investment! One payment of 11£ can save you so much MONEY in the long run. Discounts in top high street shops as well as online shops! Who knows with all the money you can effectively save could go to that UH-some pair of boots that you've been eye-ing up the past month!

I've not yet finished my 3 years @ Uni, in fact i'm only in my first year! However, i read an article that more and more post graduates are having to sign up for the dole. I for sure am going to do my best not to end up in that situation! I'm saving as much as i can from now on, as well as doing extra work! Your Uni encourages internships and work experience so go get some!

Any comments? Or Questions? Feel free to drop a line or two below ;)

Rihanna; S and M - Review and Opinion.

Flicking through the music channels I am faced with various ‘good looking’ semi-naked women contorting their bodies this way and that. The hip hop beats unsuccessfully trying to cover up the fact that all these songs’ lyrics depict the singers’ latest relationship, often reflecting the scenes best left behind the closed bedroom door.  No matter which way you look at it, Teens are faced with sexual innuendos’  through every media possible.

However singer Rihanna appears to take saucy to a new level with her new song release ‘S and M’. SingingSticks and stones may break my bones. But chains and whips excite me’ Rihanna leaves no room for doubt as to what she is singing about. The music video that goes along with her new song requires a confirmation of age over 18 on YouTube. The video features  shots of the 22 year old behind cling film making suggestive expressions  and of her with various others making sexual gestures with a blow up doll.

Click here for the Music Video..You know you're tempted!

In a recent article featured on the MTV website, Rihanna was outraged to be informed through her Twitter followers that the name of her song had been changed from ‘S and M’  to ‘Come on’.  The singer was also told that certain words had been edited out or ‘Beeped’, as the hour of air time was accessible to minors. She said to a fan that she is ‘absolutely NOT ok’ with the change of the song.

To read full article click here.

Why does this article interest me?
I found this particular article interesting because Rihanna’s reaction towards the BBC’s actions was childish, despite knowing that it was being aired on prime time radio. Her anger was un-necessary and over the top. When you’re writing a song and naming it ‘S and M’ you’re fully aware that it’s unsuitable for younger people to hear. Even though the song is bound to reach their ears, the nature of the song is too vulgar and provocative to remain the same, with words such as 'sex', 'chains' and 'whips',  something that parents may wish to keep their children away from.
I also find it interesting to hear that her record label were allowed to change the name of the song without Rihanna even hearing about it. Are the singers really that out of the loop? Surely when producing a new song you would keep tabs on these big changes, no? Which leads me to think, who really is in charge? When we see these young singers flaunting themselves on stage, running about in top night clubs, rolling with the rich and famous, are they really in control? We’re lead to believe that they call the shots, when really they're on reins held by their very own record labels.

What did you think of Rihanna’s new song?
Her outrage just?

Nights out @ Uni. Farnham - To Be or NOT to Be?

University seems to have lost its main purpose in the recent years. Going to Uni used to be solely based on the quality of education received. However students are more interested in the social side, what the night time atmosphere is like, how cheap the drinks are!
I know University is not ALL about the learnin', and that a certain amount of socialising is important, i just believe the balance of the two has been disturbed. Don't get me wrong! When i thought of my forth coming years at Uni i pictured myself along side everyone else shakin' my hips, swayin' my hands in the air to endless parties, more than you could shake a stick at! And this is where i begin my article on the night life of my University. From Freshers to the average week!

Average cost of a night out @ Farnham:
Coke (the cola kind!) - £1 litre bottle
Vodka - £12 (roughly, depending on which brand!)
Entry to Student Union - £2-3
Drinks out at the SU - £2.50 (depending on what drink)
Unless you take a trip to 'ole Guildford:
Train ticket - £3 (with student card)
Club entry - £5-10 (depending on th club)
Drinks out - £3 - up (Depending on the drink)
Taxi home - £10 each in a mini-cab

So as you can see not exactly cheap to go out to Guildford.
Farnham isn't the place to be if you want a Uni lifestyle choca-bloc full of night-clubbin', for the smple fact that there isn't a club here....

But fear not students! Want to actully get your degree? Come here! And i may have made out a little that Farnham is free from nightlife, it's not. The IS the SU! Which isn't that bad most of the time! You just have to make your night out as good as you want it! Most students go with Vodka :) It's the Fast Train to Drunk-Ville, Stopping at Can't remember a Damn thing so it must have been a good night!

Just a reminder to what ever UNI you choose to go to, Be Careful! Drink totally screws you up! Stay with people you know, your friends! Don't leave room for regret! That guy/gal may look hot whilst your intoxicated with half a bottle of Vodka but when waking up to them vomiting on your floor in the morning, i'm sure you may have second thoughts...

Salander Steals our Hearts! Larsson Trilogy review!

Hitting the train stations with a storm is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo trilogy by Stieg Larsson. Swarms of comuters clutch the recent top of the charts book and loose themselves in Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander's scandalous lives.

The three books ( The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest) where left unpublished at the time of Larsson's death in November 2004 and since have become a hit over Europe and America with several translations.

Michael Blomkvist is the financial magazine Millennium's chief editor and journalist. Facing the ultimate court case accused of libel and slander he takes time out and is hired by an old buinessman to investigate the mystery of his missing niece.

Lisbeth Salander has the world against her, she works for a company using her computer techniques to gather files of detailed information on selected people. Blomkvist recruits Salander to help him solve the mystery.

I read the first book over the course of 2 weeks, and I love books that are thick that i don’t finish within the day. Perfectly keeping the ending hidden with his gripping style of writing, Larsson kept me on edge, constantly trying my best to decipher the ending. Constantly trying to solve the mystery.

The first chapter is incredibly hard to get into. The use of Swedish names and places gets extremly confusing but after a while when you begin to recognise the characters getting hooked to the storyline is inevitable.

There is a reason that everyone is or has read this book. Five stars out of 5.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 : Game review (Girls P.O.V)

What is different from the first?
Not much at all really. Except that you can earn money whilst driving around.

So, i'm strapped in to my hot pink mustang with lipstick kisses on the side, i go for a cruze along the Ibezan highway. Yes, i'm the one swaying from one side of the road to the other. Oh and i'm a man ;)
I'm logged on to my Beau's xbox account as i don't have one..yet ;) i crash and total his virtual cars. As relaxing as it is, it's soooooooo difficult to steer whilst using the controller!

What can you do?
You can pop into the hairdressers and get a clean cut shave and hair cut!
Need a hand car wash? Check! There's a garage where you can drive in and a wave of hot virtual girls in bikinis wash and wax your hotride!
Got too much money burning a hole in your pocket? Feel free to splash it out on a poker table! With online you can play against other people!

There is something a little masculine about this game. Only faint though! Definatly a game that you coud play with your bopyfriend! Except oh wait its not two player. Not a slitscreen game :/ Darn!

XBOX- Top Games. For Girls with Boyfriends that LOVE it.

The XBOX, along side any other game box? See i don't even know what to call them! I'm stumbling over game stations and game consoles. We'll say game consoles and you shall just nod and agree. Yes? Great.

So the XBOX, PlayStation, Wii and other 'Game Consoles' are just one of those things that our guys love (well most of them). The magnetism for Zombie killing and Driving really fast is too strong for them to resist. As perfect girlfriends we must accept them (the games not the boys ) as a part of their (the boys not the game) and our love too for that matter!
BUT why do we have to give in? Why can't we just pick up the control and let the Beau's teach us their world of 'Game Consoles'?
There ARE in fact games out there that us girls will like and that the guys will like too! Playing on your own is one thing but playing together as a couple is much more fun!

In this post, i'm going to go through a few games that i have come across that i actually enjoy and so does my Boyfriend! Games for girls and their Beaus!

1. Left 4 dead (2)
-This game is 2 player so perfect to play together, killing Zombies side by side! You will never believe how fun it is being one of 4 left human fighting your way through a hoard of Undead! Especially when your Boyfriend can save you and you can save him!

2. Halo; Reach
- Awesome! I love this game so much. And actually went through a stage of being grumpy that i couldn't play it whilst at uni! This game you can play just you and the Beau or you can play online! Online is the best though for me. What else is great is that you can be a girl! You don't have to play a man like some other games! There are lots of types of games including mini games so you can play to your strengths and weaknesses. Multi team games are great because it means you and your Boyfriend can be in a team of two and play short games like Crazy King. Such a wide variety that i find it hard that anyone couldn't play something that they like (and are good at)!

3. Viva Pinata
- This game you create and look after a garden and attract little Pinatas. Relaxing, colourful and cute! Also comes in 2 player that boys (if they admit it) don't find too bad! If he loves you .... and you agree to try Gears of War... ;P

4. Carcasonne (or the Tile game as i like to call it, for short )
 - Perfect to play whilst snuggled up in bed! The aim of the game is to get as many points as you can buy finishing castles or roads with your little man on it! But beware games can get a little heated with the smell of competitiveness in the air! Also the music is annoyingly addictive and you'll no doubt be humming it!

I've only put a few on here so far but it's only a start! Feel free to leave a comment with games that you have come across and would like to suggest for the list. Don't worry credit will be give to you :)

The Girl and the Star Wars Saga. 2011.

Me with a Light Saber! :)

I'm 19 years old and before now i'd never seen the Star Wars series until my Beau dedicated each night for a week to watch them with me.
With Skywalker quotes floating straight over my blonde little head i'd never been interested in watching them. But my Boyfriends family opened my mind up to a whole new universe!
So lets get the it! Eh?! I decided that i would watch the films in not the order they were filmed but in chronological order which may throw some enthusiasts into a slight frenzy i've heard. Starting from 1 to V1. Yes this means that i watched the newest first, [SPOILER] and yes it means that that i knew that Darth Vadar was Luke Skywalkers 'Faaather' but then again, by now, who doesn't?

I - The Phantom Menace.
What a cutey little Anakin Skywalker is in this film! Totally besotted with this little actor i learn to love this talented and promising Jedi in the making.

T with his Clone Gun :)
II - Attack of the Clones.
Ok who ever casted the Anakin in this film is bloody good at their job, i totally believed it was the same actor! The budding relationship between Skywalker and Queen Amidala makes me squeel like a pig in blanket! I love this couple! Despite his cocky nature Skywalker and Obi-Wan make a super duo!
III - Revenge of the Sith.
Such a sad film :( i literally cried my eyes out at this one! Something i really didn't expect to happen from a Star Wars film! Made me angry (at Palpatine as well as Skywalker) and made me happy, made me sad, made me cry. Possibly my favourite film of all of the 6. Something with my Boyfriend doesn't like haha.

IV - A New Hope.
This is the film that was filmed first, and as some may believe the one i should have watched first. We meet Luke and Han Solo, where they go with Ben (Obi-Wan) to fight Darth Vadar, along with good old C-3-P-O, R2D2 and Chewbaka to cover and give back up! I really didn't like Luke, i thought he was rubbish! He couldn't fight very well haha and i was a much bigger fan of his father! Leia too disappointed me :( i was told she was mean't to be the root of many a mans' sexual desires! Ey?!

V - Empire Strikes Back.I'm not going to lie, don't remember much from this film at all :| Exept the snow scene at the begining. Say much?

VI - Return of the Jedi.
'I am ..your..Faaather..oooh...ahhhh....' yes this is the pinnacle of all the movies, what they have all been leading up to. I expected a little more tensity and to be more shocked, but then again i have known Darth Vadar's secret for many years now haha. I really liked this film, if only because we see Anakin's goodness that he still has in him released as he asves his son! I loved this bit. I screamed 'YESSSS' and claimed i knew all along that he was good! Ok im a big Anakin fan, screw Luke its all about his Dad! haha

"So there you have it. A girl from 2011's view on the Star Wars movies. I really like them! And have even declared that i am going to buy my Boyfriend the boxset for him (yes this is so i can watch them too ;). Who would have thought that i would desperatly want a bloody light saber after that? I'm being serious :| i want one. lol."

The Kings Speech - Review.

What is it about?
Colin Firth, an actor that us Brits are proud to call our own emotionally portrayed King George VI in The Kings Speech (2010). Based on the true story, Tom Hooper directs this moving film where The Queens father, King George VI, suffers from a severe speech impediment. With the support from his wife (Helena Bonham Carter) he under-goes a series of unusual methods from his new speech therapist  (Geoffrey Rush) to get over his stutter. The death of his father and the quick passed succession of taking over the throne from his brother, King George VI (Firth) is under alot of pressure to lift the morale of the country as it sees the beginning of World War II.

My Cinema Billet :)

Colin Firth:
There is no one that could have played King George VI with as much dedication and emotion as Firth did. He was perfectly cast and easy to relate to. With his explosive anger towards his stutter you could feel his frustration as he tries to push his words out. The was no doubt that his acting was right 'A', i was totally sucked in, completely forgetting him as any other character, completely empathic towards him.

Why go to see it?
This film is spectacular. It's historical so you can go away feeling proud and patriotic. Colin Firth, need i say anymore? Even though at first i felt a little dubious as soon as he starts his sessions with the speech therapist I'm giggling and full on belting laughter along with the other 12 people in my 6 o'clock showing. It's a film i feel that anyone could watch, you can watch it with your friends and you can watch it with your nan.

Who?
Helena Bonham Carter.......Woah. She is such a brilliant British actress. Although her usual roles demand wild hair and out-land-ish costumes staring in films such as Harry Potter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Alice in Wonderland (2010 - The Queen of Hearts) and Sweeney Todd, in The Kings Speech we see a totally different side of her and are opened up to her diversity.
